    Benton Hospice Service was recently awarded a grant from Kiwanis to purchase much needed supplies for our physical therapy program. This grant will allow us to provide more patients with specialized Roho cushions. We thank Kiwanis members for their commitment to providing needed services to the seriously ill and their families and caregivers.

    Benton Hospice Service was surveyed over a four-day period November 29 through December 2, 2016 and received a deficiency-free report. Medicare requires all hospice organizations to undergo an evaluation every three years to assure that the organization is operating under the Medicare Conditions of Participation for hospice.

    Event to Celebrate National Family Caregiver Month

    Please join us to learn about local support services and to honor the caregivers in Linn and Benton counties at the eighth annual Family Caregiver Appreciation Day to be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 9. The event is free and will be held at the First United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall located at 1115 28th Avenue SW in Albany at the corner of Umatilla. Doors open and coffee will be served at 10:30.

    Kao Joins Benton Hospice Service as Assistant Medical Director

    Dr. Helen Kao’s recently joined Benton Hospice Service as assistant medical director after 9 years at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Kao is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice & Palliative Care. She studied English and East Asian Studies at Harvard University and subsequently worked for 3 years in public health before starting her medical training at UCSF.

    Scott Wilson, M.Div., Chaplain at Benton Hospice Service have been chosen to serve on the Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplaincy Committee for the Spiritual Care Association. The Spiritual Care Association is a multidisciplinary, international professional membership association for spiritual care providers. The association establishes evidence-based quality indicators, scope of practice, and a knowledge base for spiritual care in health care.
