We Honor Veterans
Benton Hospice Service has made a commitment to offer Veteran-specific care and services. We are constantly working to improve the services we provide to our Veteran patients. Additionally, we provide outreach and education to Veteran groups and community providers to increase awareness and earlier access to hospice care for Veterans. Our staff receive specialized on-going training in the areas of Veterans’ needs specific to their culture, mental health issues and benefits.
- To thank our Veteran patients for their service, we honor them with a special pinning ceremony, which includes a certificate of appreciation and a pin. We also recognize our Veteran patients at other opportunities throughout the year including Veteran's Day, the Fourth of July and Memorial Day.
- We have trained hospice volunteers who are Veterans themselves that are available to meet with our Veteran hospice patients. Our Veteran volunteers, who are uniquely suited to serving them, understand military culture and often have experiences in common, which helps promote conservation and allows the patient to open up and share with someone who "gets it."
- We Honor Veterans is a hospice awareness campaign conducted by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In 2016 Benton Hospice Service was nationally recognized as a We Honor Veterans hospice partner.
- The Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization partnered to present this video explaining options for Veterans as they face end-of-life: Hospice and Palliative Care for Veterans.
